I spent the first pandemic year sheltering in place, photographing only my house and garden. Using three very different cameras, I shot the entire project in square format, a return to my photographic roots. At age ten, my first camera was a square format Kodak Instamatic. At fourteen, I switched to an ancient Rolleiflex 2 ¼ x 2 ¼, teaching myself to develop and print film in a small bathroom.
COVID-19 isolation gave me the opportunity to reflect visually on my home’s unorthodox design and explore the possibilities of photographing for a year without leaving my quarter acre.
